It is also a series that diffidently needs to be read in order as each book builds on the lives of the characters in the previous books. It is a wonderful series that combines a well told mystery with history and archaeology that is sure to appeal to anyone looking for a plot with a real challenge to solve.

I love this series; Ruth Galloway and all her acquaintances are good friends of mine by now. In this novel, Ruth turns 43 and Kate is 3. On an excavation, Galloway discovers what appears to be Mother Hook, a notorious Victorian child minder and child killer. She falls into a role on a TV show about Women Who Kill; I find her department head's drooling to be on it amusing.

As is usually the case in this series, something about the archaeological dig echoes what's happening in current day. A woman ...more
