This book can be read as a stand alone in the series. The first and third book have plots that relate to each other but you can read this one out of order. I think of this book as the murder squad's road trip novel. Inspector Day, Sergeant Hammersmith, and Dr. Kingsley go to an English village in the Midlands to discover what happened to a missing toddler and his parents. Like any good Agatha Christie novel, these small town folks have secrets, lot's of them. Adding to the drama is the fact that ...more
Booknblues
A good solid quick read, meant to divert the mind from critical thinking and it did just that. If I had been thinking critically I might mention how far fetched it was and how I enjoyed some of the eccentric characters.

Setting is coal country, England in 19th century with two detectives from Scotland Yard.
