A little harsh, but there you go. I liked the core story, and I really liked the world of the circus that the author created, and the fact that the Celia and Marco didn't just fall into each other's arms at first sight.

There was a lot of potential with this book, and toward the end it almost lived up to it... but wow was it a chore to get through to that point. The imagery was rich, the magic was inventive - but most of the book was made up of jerky snippets of story hinting at an eventual purpose. Even the main characters continually wonder what the point of this scenario is - only in perhaps the last third of the book do events start to come together.
