What Members Thought
Honestly this is more of a 4.5 stars for me. This book was not at all what I expected, but in the end that was part of its charm. I didn't find myself caught up in familiar tropes with this story. Initially I expected this story to be more of a mystery - it isn't. It isn't exactly a coming-of-age story either, although there are certainly elements of that present. Perhaps I can best describe it as a rich character study which absolutely charmed me. I think this is what fairy tales would be like

Generally I prefer a little something more to the plot BUT I also recognize that it was a really well written story and you don't really need more to make it work.
There was something so realistic about Josie - her conflict over her mother, wanting to trust her but knowing she shouldn't, her feelings for her two fellas, the helplessness over the father-figure's illness (yeah, I've already forgotten most of the names). It's a great example of how to make a sympathetic, interesting character.
