There was a bit of a drop-off in this book, not necessarily in quality, but I don't know if I liked the new strategy of focusing on only half the characters. This might have worked better if Martin had followed through with expectations and released DWG, as stated at the end of the book, the year after this one, which would have been 2006. This book is really the 5th and 4th books cut in half. But rather than George cutting it squarely in half he just put half the character storylines in. So we miss out on hearing anything about various characters like Dany, Tyrion, Bran, and Stannis, and only hear a little about Jon Snow and Arya. This is not a bad thing, but it did feel like there was a gaping hole.

Could someone please remind old Georgie that at the end of this book he wrote that the next book would be out in about a year, since he'd already written so much of it before deciding to split Feast into two books. Oh and point out that he wrote that promise back in June of 2005. WTH?! So this series has captured me in a way that I haven't been since, well, I don't know when. I love the series. I love the story and the characters. And I will run to the bookstore like a squeeing child when Dance With Dragons comes out.
That said, Feast for Crows was decidedly less tight, less organized, less thrilling, less enthralling and less of a fun read than the other three books that came first. There was some repetitive phrasing that stuck out (lots of 'for the nonce' and lots of not giving a 'groat' and so forth), some tedious unnecessary riding back and forth and some cliffhan ...more
