I started reading this book because I wanted to have more information on the characters and events of the HBO series, Game of Thrones. I enjoyed the show and felt it stayed pretty true to the book all for a few inconsequential scenes. A dark, violent and gritty book and an sntidote to the rather cliche ridden fantasies of the past. However, with the death of major characters and a fair amount of sex and pretty graphically portrayed blood and guts, it's not for everyone.
