Yay! Finally, I finished this monstrous book. Seriously reading it feels like it was even longer than the HBO series which has ten episodes. Anyway I really like this book and I think presently I am very obsessed with it. I am even considering to have it as my top 1 favorite book of all time and Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins needs to step down and give that spot to Game of Thrones. However, I think I just need to finish reading the other books to make it more fair to the other books that I ha ...more

This one is rather hard for me to review....I'm still thinking about it. Did it entertain me?.....yes. Did it keep me interested....definitely. There were characters I really liked and many I despised. Why not 5 stars then? I'm aggravated! Nothing good happened to any of my favorite characters!! Ok, maybe that's not true, but lots of really nasty stuff happened to them and not enough bad stuff happened to the bad characters. Lots of violence and killing of the characters....the good ones! A few ...more

A militaristic fantasy novel. Unlike one that I had ever really read before. The writing is very impassive, slightly impersonal, sometimes (or all the time...) uncaring, but the story and plot move the book along at a good clip. Confusing as heck in the beginning, with all the lineages, you DO get a feel for it as it goes along. I liked the book being from different points of view, and thought it was handled well.

I don't much like how women are portrayed, with few few exceptions, in the book. B

I found this book riveting from start to finish. It is set in an intriguing setting, with convincing characters, while being just complex enough to hold absolute focus without being overly difficult.

In my humble opinion, a must read!

I'm currently reading it.

It's unlike any other fantasy novel I've ever read, because the focus is more on the court intrigues and politics than in magic and what-not, but it's a captivating book so far. You just know after reading the first few chapters that you wouldn't find happy endings in this novel - and perhaps even the entire series - but this sad fact won't stop you from continuing with it. In fact, it makes you go through the pages even faster.

I also find it interesting that the chapte

I didn't know the TV show Game of Thrones was based off books until, of course, I watched the TV show... which I loved. So, going into this first book, I knew what was going to happen. I'm suprised at how much the show did follow the book. The book definitely has much more details. It took me awhile to get into it b/c of the way it is written. Once I got used to this, and the story started to develop more, it was a very hard book to put down. My favorite characters are Daenerys and Robb Stark, a ...more

Awesome! Very long, very involved, lots of characters with strange names, but it was really excellent. On to the second book, as I eagerly await the HBO series coming next year.

Fantastic read! So much detail that it was a little confusing to get into, but the index in the back showing all of the Houses really helped clear up any mistaken identities. The first installment of what looks to be a fantastic series.

I really, really liked this book a lot. I ordered the 4 book box set right after HBO debuted the series. To me it is more of a political intrigue in a fantasy setting. I love the depth and believability that the characters have.
