Heartbreakingly raw. Breathtakingly real. Brutal. Hopeful. Inspiring.

Once again Ms. Ryan has written a book that is important. Significant. Relevant.
It’s a book of survival, one that will resonate. A book that at times is unbearably, agonizingly hard. It hurt. Boy did it hurt.

It's only March and I've already found "the book of the year". It's going to be difficult for any other book to surpass what this one did to me. The whole time I was reading I was internally screaming I want this book to be a movie. Over and over again I had that thought. I was gutted, I felt broken, I felt like I had a relationship with the characters. I haven't ever felt as connected to characters the way I did these. I have been a huge Kennedy Ryan fan for a long time, but this is without a doubt her best book. She holds nothing back, painting a picture of despair and helplessness so vividly you feel it in your throat. But the brutal darkness is what makes this book shine. Kennedy Ryan is an exceptional writer and all her books have hit me right in the feels.

Long Shot is no exception. Deep, powerful and soul wrenching is how I would explain this book to anyone asking. It does contain a sensitive subject, but awareness to this subject is crucial in today's society. Kennedy weaves it into an amazing love story between August and Iris.

As I write this review, I’m struggling for words that will put into perspective how amazing, important, and phenomenal Long Shot is. Kennedy Ryan’s words are still swimming around in my mind, but that’s nothing new. Some of the words from Grip still swim through my mind and it’s been a year since that release. I’m sure the words from Long Shot will stay with me for quite some time and I doubt I’ll truly do them justice.

She Did It Again!!!

Speechless. Positively speechless. That's how this book left me when I got to the final word, "shot." I stared at my Kindle for a while trying to figure out what it was I was going to "say," but the words and thoughts wouldn't pop up. I was still processing the story and the emotions I felt while reading.
August West...OMG!!! This man could be the poster child for devotion. How does a man stay so devoted to someone who isn't his? To a woman who seems so far out of reach you al She Did It Again!!!

August West...OMG!!! This man could be the poster child for devotion. How does a man stay so devoted to someone who isn't his? To a woman who seems so far out of reach you almost want to slap him upside the head Cher style and yell, "get over it!" However, he doesn't get over it. He doesn't give up. He lets his heart and soul guide him to the future he wanted. August should be the goal, the measuring stick we measure all men with. Every woman should feel, no...every woman should KNOW that there is a man who will make her his center, who will "play her at the five."
There is a piece of me that identifies with Iris. No, not in the abused way. In the way she stayed in a relationship she knew she didn't want to be in. I get that. I recently lived that, still dealing with that. I admire Iris for recognizing it. I admire her for enduring what she did to protect her child. I'm even a little jealous of her strength. Iris is the face of so many woman who "do what they have to do" not only to survive, but to protect the ones they love. That warrior spirit of hers was AWESOME!!!
As readers, we imagine the "movie" as we read. The writers paint these pictures in our brains and we experience the story as it unfolds. Kennedy Ryan is my Michelangelo. He words give me the brightest, most vivid pictures in my head that I feel like I'm actually walking with the characters...that I'm so close to them that I could touch them. (I really wanted to touch August, Iris be darned...lol) What this author writes resonates with you long after you've hit the last word. Down the line, just hearing the name of the book will have you reliving every detail like you read it yesterday. That is how amazing her books are.
5 STARS seems so trivial for what I just read, but it's all I'm allowed. This was just... PERFECT! ...more

Ms Ryan has done it again!
She has taken an issue that infects our society and uses a character, Iris, full of strength, grace, and dignity to shine a light for all of us to see.
Yes, this is a romance and love story. But, it’s also a story about survival and finding the inner strength to do what you must.
