There are not enough good things to say about this book so I'm simply going to suggest it as a MUST READ. This was the first book I've read by this incredibly talented author and I'll tell you right now, it will not be the last. In fact I've already one-click the others in this series.

4-4.5 stars. This is my favorite book in the series so far because of the Southern cowboy Cain. His voice is perfectly captured in his distinct thoughts and sayings, which is unlike any of the other characters so far. Cain has a big heart that is just waiting to love someone and he knew he was a goner from the first time he set eyes on Celia. From the previous books, it's obvious that Celia has walls up around her when it comes to anything romantic, but the reason why is unknown. The prologue pu 4-4.5 stars. This is my favorite book in the series so far because of the Southern cowboy Cain. From the previous books, it's obvious that Celia has walls up around her when it comes to anything romantic, but the reason why is unknown. The prologue pulls the reader in and sets the stage for discovering Celia's history.

Celia is amazing at her job, she really cares about her patients and has infinite patience herself. She's very giving, compassionate and understanding. While she and Cain develop a friendship, Cain wants to push her for more because he can't deny his feelings but Celia keeps holding back with hesitation, explaining how unavailable she is. I thought Celia was emotionally unavailable, but it just so happens that there's so much more behind that statement. Celia was in love once many years ago and that love, while not the same anymore, is what she clings to and can't let go of.

I admired Cain's tenacity in pushing through Celia's barriers but Celia is equally stubborn and won't relent, especially when she sees how much it hurts other people around her. I was actually really annoyed that her best friend Audrey was so unsupportive even though I knew why. Storms Over Secrets is angsty and charged with a vibe of longing and regret. I really empathized with Celia because she was stuck between a rock and a hard place and until she could find a way out, she couldn't be with Cain and he did what he needed to do in order to move on. There's a great message in this story about people who cannot be helped if they don't want to be helped to begin with. Seeking help is nerve wracking, letting other people in is scary, and baring one's vulnerabilities is frightening. Yet living on the side of the fear really isn't living at all and once that meaning is understood, a whole series of events begins to take place that sets things in motion in the right direction. I didn't expect Cain to be my favorite character so far but he is, especially with the way he is so devoted in his heart and how he will go to any length to help out the people he cares for the most. Storms Over Secrets is a beautifully written tale about letting go of the guilt and having the courage to love again.

I've been a fan of this series from the beginning, so I already knew Celia and Cain. Cain has always been a huge scene stealer, but really getting to know him he is truly the whole package. Sexy and funny as hell with a huge heart that he gives without hesitation to one girl.

Better and better!

This series has continued to blow me away. Cain and Celia's book is full of sadness and heartbreak, but to see them overcome their obstacles was amazing! Their love didn't come easy, but once it did, it was so beautiful. My heart broke for her and what she endured with Lucas. So, to see her get her happy ending with Cain just made me smile. They make each other so happy and I loved seeing the characters from the other books as well. ...more

J.A DeRouen is an author that I’ve been wanting to read. I’ve had her books sitting in my “to read” pile for a while now and finally got to read her work with Storms Over Secrets. My thoughts now include, “What have I been waiting for!”

J.A DeRouen is an author that I’ve been wanting to read. I’ve had her books sitting in my “to read” pile for a while now and finally got to read her work with Storms Over Secrets. My thoughts now include, “What have I been waiting for!”
In Storms Over Secrets, we meet Celia, an early 20’s counselor who has a truck full of baggage. Decisions made when she was a high school senior way heavy on her and have her believing that she doesn’t deserve love. Then she meets Cain and that hunky game warden won’t take no for an answer.
Ms. DeRouen does a fantastic job of weaving past and present so that we learn Celia’s secret and her heartbreak while we also see Cain begin to bring her back to life first as friends then as a romantic interest. Just when we thought they might have the beginnings of something, the past comes back in the form of a friend that doesn’t understand.
Celia is a young woman that my heart just hurt for while reading her story. She had so much to deal with at 17 and her support system failed her and other peoples’ guilt caused them to blame her. She took that blame and spent six years punishing herself and ultimately punishing Cain because he didn’t know why she refused to be with him romantically.
One of the things I enjoyed about this book is that not only did we transition from past to present to fully understand the story, we also got to see things from both Celia and Cain’s point of view. That helped so much because we not only got to see what was in their heads, but also how they reacted to each others behaviors.
As much as my heart hurt for Celia, there were also times when I just wanted to shake her. I loved that she finally stood up for herself and made a friend understand how she was hurting. How Storms Over Secrets ended was a happy surprise; Ms. DeRouen took us on a heartbreaking ride dealing with some very hefty issues and still found a way for there to be happiness in the end. I am looking forward to the opportunity to go back and read the two books that proceed Secrets in the Over series.

She did it again ~ a beautiful, touching story that leaves your heart full! I don't think I have enjoyed a character as much as I have Cain; he is funny, loyal, confident ~ just simply amazing. Celia is such a sweet-heart, so willing to help anyone and give it her all. The roller-coaster ride this book takes you on is well worth it. The character growth, the secondary characters, the story are nothing less than superb. There is nothing I wouldn't read from JA DeRouen!!! ...more
