I loved the finish. Again, it's been so long since I last read them that it was like reading a new series. You really get shaped by the movies. The movies worked so hard to be true to the books that the differences are almost jarring.
But it's good. It's a good book. The book ends, but then there are about 120 pages of appendices and notes. And that shows how connected Tolkien was to his materials. You don't have to read it, but you just know that Tolkien thought about each of these characters.

Can't decide which ending I like better. The book ending is great, especially the shire bits. I don't think I will ever fully remember the entirety of the appendix, but some very interesting stuff was included as well.
