Biting, gut-punching short stories that are frighteningly sad and darkly humorous at times. Outstanding - this book truly was one of the best of 2018. High violence and high weird factor, but still very keyed into human nature. They kinda reminded me of the Ray Bradbury short stories I've read, the pedestrian who draws suspicion because he's not at home in front of his tv set and the school children who've never seen the sun that lock their classmate in the closet for the only 15 minutes it will shine for the next seven years. Really enjoyed this collection of short stories! It seemed to channel the more terrestrial moments of Ray Bradbury, with a healthy dose of near future horror that reminded me of both Margaret Atwood at her most gruesome points of the Madd Addam trilogy and the best episodes of Black Mirror. There was really only one story I didn't care for out of the twelve, which is an insanely high batting average for a short story collection. Can't wait to see what this author does next!!
