What Members Thought

Read it as a kid and loved it. Read it as an adult and loved it, if for different reasons. All the characters in the book have some sort of gnawing need for purpose. While each of them engaged in The Westing Game initially to win the the $200 million inheritance, what they each found was a sense of self and fulfillment. For such a short book (the audiobook clocks in at a mere 7 hours), the characters develop quite a lot.

Huh. Another book I've had to go back to the beginning and re-read to try to figure out.
It's intriguing but it takes a fairly bleak view of humanity. The characters don't have many dimensions and judge each other constantly, so I wasn't able to identify with or root for anyone. Not a story to read for warmth and empathy, but one to read analytically, from a distance. It has its merits, of course, but won't be changing my life. ...more
