I think this a great book for kids who are interested in mysteries. It was quirky and fun in areas. I found myself picturing the movie Clue. I'm not sure if I just wasn't interested or not invested with all the characters. For me mysteries have got to pack a big WTF?!? I did not get that with this one. ...more

16 unrelated people move into a brand new apartment building. But it's not as random as they think. Sam Westing is dead. And these unrelated people are all called to a reading of the will. They discover that they are all potential heirs to Westing's millions. There is just one test. They have to solve his murder.

Huh. Another book I've had to go back to the beginning and re-read to try to figure out.

It's intriguing but it takes a fairly bleak view of humanity. The characters don't have many dimensions and judge each other constantly, so I wasn't able to identify with or root for anyone. Not a story to read for warmth and empathy, but one to read analytically, from a distance. It has its merits, of course, but won't be changing my life. ...more

I think that this was a fantastic book! We were required to read this in school but I read through the entire thing in one night. I brilliantly formulated and so enthralling that I encourage people of all ages to read and re-read this book. It should be a classic.
