I'm not sure what to say about The Hunger Games. I didn't really want to read it. Wasn't interested, and had no plans to look into it further: just because I don't much like children doesn't mean I want to read about them killing each other. And I cordially dislike dystopian novels. If I'd known before buying it that it was set in the present tense I'd never have gotten it.

Then my sister mentioned she was reading The Hunger Games, and it was amazing. She was surprised I hadn't planned to get in

Rated this 4.5

Really quite enjoyed the book and exploring her thoughts as she competes. Its almost like she can't exist without being in the woods with Gale, hunting for food and her family's survival. And she also can't exist without being around her family, which consist of her mother and her younger sister, Prim; they are her world and the reason she participates in the Games and her thoughts are never far from them.

**Rewatch 2023**

It's just after Thanksgiving and The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes has just hit theatres. Have I read the book? No. Did I plan to see the movie? Also no. And then I got this crazy idea to rewatch all the Hunger Games movies this weekend and now I am a different person. I'm now the kind of person who has The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes sitting on my Nook ready to go.

Immediate thoughts after re-watching the OG movies: (view spoiler)

I found this book extremely difficult to read because of all the psychological torture. I am not sure I'd want my (non existent) teen to read it, because it is beyond brutal. I do, however, think that both the concept and the execution are interesting. ...more

JUST READ IT. It totally lives up the hype. I consumed it in less than 36 hours. It was fantastic and I cant wait for the second book!

Not the type of book I normally like, but I had to see what all the fuss was about, plus my book club selected it. I did like the plucky heroine and the suspense of seeing how she survives.

Technically a re-read, but I still really like this first book. The other two were not as good in my opinion but this is a very strong start to the series.

Interested in reading the next books to see if my opinion has changed
