I'm not sure what I expected when reading this for the first time. I guess I was expecting it to be more like the movie and creepy. While still darker than most children's stories it was very cute and enjoyable.

Like all the great children's books, this one is told in rhyme. Plus there is a literal subversion of 'Twas the night before Christmas. If you liked the movie, you'll love this too.
