Had to re-read this after seeing the film. The one is a refraction of the other 8)
This was more of 'I can appreciate how it accomplishes its goals and the execution was good' book for me - if it's your thing, I can see why you'd really love it. It's not my thing.

Extremely ominous and disconcerting. Once I completed this, I had to let its content settle for longer than usual to decide how I felt about it. The premise is intriguing and I am anxious to learn more about Area X to answer some of my burning questions, so those factors alone will spur me on to the next book. I loved this book quite a bit. It seemed like everyone in my life was recommending this to me and I finally picked it up from the library to read.
It is weird and unnerving, quickly paced but not overwhelmingly so, and the main character was very intriguing and interesting.
I will be happily picking up the rest of the series soon!
