I found this book to be incredibly disappointing. It isn’t actually bad and I enjoyed some of it, but there is almost no story. While having interesting and well developed characters is great, this book tries to spend time with everyone and to make every character special. This left me feeling unattached to any of them in the end. Fun, light-hearted, and inclusive.
This book was small on plot (but I didn't mind at all) and big on character development and world-building. A very nice comfort read.
I would recommend this book to people who like science fiction and food descriptions, but find themselves turned off by techy info-dumping and 27-page long space battles. ...more

Indeed, this is in many ways the book version of Firefly.
