I recommend this book without reservation.
The book Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell is a behemoth, but I found it a gripping and detailed read. Set during the Napoleonic Wars, which raged during the early 1800s, the book explores a revival in "good, English magic", the likes of which had not been present in England for the past 400 years.
