That was disappointing. I really don’t understand why this is considered a classic. It is also not horror, maybe suspense, but not horror by any stretch of the imagination. The book is well written but doesn’t seem to have much to say. The “twist” is not surprising or particularly interesting. I want to like this book but there just isn’t anything for me to work with.

The whole way through reading this book, I just felt peculiar. I didn't know who to belive, who to feel sympathy for, what was real, an illusion, and never really grasped some of the characters motivations. Nonetheless, its effect was profound. I found logic in some of Merricat's rituals, comfort in the safety pf the Blackwood house, and terror at the prospect of that all being ripped away.
