What a creepy, suspenseful read! I enjoyed this slow burning, character-driven tale that felt like a juicy prequel to your standard haunted house or witch story. Jackson's writing feels timeless, and I like how what happened on that fateful night is gradually revealed as well as the unreliability of the narrator. I almost feel like I need to reread this to analyze everything now that I know what happens to see if there are clues that I missed along the way!

There's nothing I can say about this book that hasn't already been said. Dark, atmospheric, a beautifully written gem of a story that envelopes you and makes you fall in love with the characters, especially the story's unreliable narrator, Mary Katherine, a.k.a. Merricat. Dark and delightful at the same time like a bowl of berries with sugar on them.
