This book is so powerful and masterfully written. Not only do you learn so much about Greek mythology, but the beautiful descriptions of motherhood broke my heart. This is a must-read for all women.
Pretty good.
The story of Circe retold. A different angle reveals the story of a woman uncomfortable with her life as a goddess. She becomes a witch and redefines herself on her island of exile and creates a new more meaningful life for herself. The fun is in the telling and the revealing of who this woman is.
I think this was a strong imagining of a mythological woman who doesn't get much of a role beyond 'witch' in the Odyssey. It reminded me of Gregory McGuire's Wicked but with a more inward feminist bent. You really get to know Circe. This isn't quite a plot driven novel, but it does have it's exciting moments. I didn't think I would like this as much as I did.

I quite liked the beginning and the end, but the middle sagged a bit for me. Something about interminable isolation, loneliness and overwhelming fear for the safety of one's child was a little rough to get through in early 2021...
