My irrational hatred for this particular word acted as a drag on the entire book for me, because the term 'obdurate past' was used as a repetitive devise or mantra throughout the 849 pages... it made me twitch with the discomfort of a million misfiring neurons.

3.5 This was a marvelous idea. The whole story seemed intensely thought out (and the time travel rules were particularly interesting). I learned a lot about Kennedy and Oswald and the late 1950s/ early 1960s.

This was really good. I almost knocked it down to three stars though because it really dragged in the middle. I just could've have done with an editor getting rid of a lot of the romance arc as it didn't interest me much. Plus the Stephen King cliches of alcoholism and AA (seriously, you did drugs too, make someone a cocaine or heroin addict for once). But it was a really solid story when it was focused on that.
