I like a lot of little ideas in this book, and like most Stephen King I have read it is well written and easy to consume, but it just felt like it wanted to go in so many directions at once.

The setup is interesting, but the mid section of the book is a bit meandering and drags. I think I understand what King was going for here, though ultimately for me the ending didn't land enough to justify all of it. It was a nice little idea that just missed the mark for me.

I'm so grateful Stephen King wrote this piece of historical speculative fiction. King's reputation as a spectacular horror novelist precedes him, which has kept me from much of his oeuvre. His reputation as a brilliant writer, despite the genre, is also well-known. Finishing this novel makes me eager to seek out more of King's work in the future. ...more

Fantastic concept, but in dire need of judicious editing. This book could have been half or even a third as long and still been just as interesting, getting to the titular date more quickly with a lot less waiting around for something to happen. I read this book based on Modern Mrs. Darcy's recommendation. I enjoy her podcasts a lot. It's an easy enough read, for being so long. I have a feeling its a nostalgia read for those who lived through Kennedy's assassination. I enjoyed the whole "Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" theme for a while, but wanted a bit more on the actual time travel itself. I expected some fantasy elements, but the magic seemed like an afterthought; the book's focus was more on the relationships. Interestin ...more

Really enjoyed 11/22/63 - it was thought provoking, entertaining, with time travel thrown in, so what's not to love? It made me think about destiny and what part we have to play in the greater picture. The story is fast paced and the narrator is rather funny. My only quibble with the book is how easily the main character made the journey from Killeen to DFW - really, popping over for a 3 hour drive on a regular basis? ...more
