I don't know quite how I feel about this book. Hill can't write action worth a damn but he does a fine job with suspense; equally, there are a string of utterly horrifying images and conceits strung thought it the pages. He doesn't follow through in the way King does but the unwritten (.imagined) horrors are what makes his books so taut. You can definitely read the influence of his dad, particularly in the pacing and in some of the turns of phrase. Those aren't necessarily bad things, although I was definitely less than pleased to see that the way that King talks about women and fat people are also mirrored in Hill. A bit disappointing to see in a book published this century.

This really felt like a Stephen King book, which is not a bad thing, but not what I thought it would be. Oh well, The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. :)
