As with every epic fantasy novel, this one is way too long and detailed. That said, I practically consumed this one. A definite improvement on the comparable Robert Jordan’s “Wheel of Time” saga, The Name of the Wind digs deep into the main character himself. Flawed and reckless, Kvothe uses his unmatched wits and intelligence to pursue the faerie tale demons that changed his life forever as a young boy. Not a tale to be missed if you’re a fantasy lover.

I've seen several people review "The Name of the Wind" as the best post-Tolkien fantasy book (4.52 stars on Goodreads as of now, which is quite impressive) even going as far as calling it "life-changing." I didn't get that impression.
I'll admit that I was pretty into it for about the first half or so. It was refreshing reading a fantasy book that wasn't just a run-of-the-mill DnD campaign concocted by someone who wouldn't know good prose if it bit him in the rear (*ahem* Sanderson). The second h ...more
