The Golden Compass (His Dark Materials, Book 1) by Philip Pullman (2001)
2023 Edit: Created an adaptations shelf to comment on books that are adapted or tie-in to other media. I thought the movie was only OK, and the bear cgi horrific. Would be cool to see hollywood take another swing at this, after more time has passed.
I liked this alright but not really enough to read the next ones. If I ever pass them in the library I might pick up the next one but who knows...
Way better than Harry Potter.
