Far be it from me to find fault in anything written by the genius Vladimir Nabokov but I hoped that Pale Fire would deliver more humor along with it's unusual construction and out-there narrative.

This book is just so impressive, and I'm certain I only scratched the surface of what's buried in there. The structure is a perfectly constructed chess puzzle, with multiple layers of meaning, and it all intricately connected and cross-referenced in brilliant and funny ways. The story is pretty good too (and there are several levels/versions of it for you to read and decide which you like best), but it's primarily enjoyable as just a marvel of form.
