It's Matheson's take on The Haunting of Hill House with some additional plot details and iconic scenes (since sampled in several horror films) that do enough of a job differentiating the two books to make this a worthy read. And a scary one at that.

Damn this book freaked me out! There doesn't seem to be any cheesiness in here and is actually very detailed and has science in it. Great tension and amazing visual descriptions. Some parts scary, some gross, a little sexiness. I am a casual reader in the horror genre, but more hardcore horror fans might consider this dated or lame. I glazed over during any science explanation and I didn't really care for any of the characters. I recommend this to horror fans.
