Carrie: oh you poor bovine-faced, butt-of-the-joke, sweet naive girl... oh you powerful, bullied, unstable, broken-homed, loaded gun... it was not your nature that made you a monster and it was not the latent power you were born with; they made you a monster, they pushed and tormented, they tore you down, implanted ideas, frightened you to no end, punished you for things beyond your control, and laughed, oh how they laughed!

Stephen King's first novel. Carrie White, a teenage girl, is tormented and bullied throughout her life. Raised by her insane religiously fanatic mother Carrie was alone and had no one to turn to. Carrie has the ability to move objects with her mind. After being humiliated in gym class her abilities become stronger. When asked to prom by Tommy Ross, Carrie believes it's another joke on her. For many it will be a night to remember.

It's hard to judge a book I've already seen (and loved) the iconic movie for. While I really liked the book (and the fake excerpts), it was a little distracting when they jumped around for the events after the prom. I think I would have preferred a more straightforward narrative at that point.

I just don’t get why this book is so popular! I appreciate its pop-cultural value but as a book, i just didn’t like it. I hated all the parenthetical thoughts and I didn’t really care about any character & the story at this point has no suspense factor. Also, I don’t see how it’s scary at all. It’s not horror; it’s sci-fi.
