This was a great read and very timely. Want to know one side of the immigrant experience in America? This is a good start.

First, the audiobook production of this novel is excellent: it includes a little Cameroonian singing (I assume), and excellent accent work by the narrator that really helps set the tone and clarify emotions that might otherwise be lost. However, this was a tough book. I enjoyed the specific details given about Cameroon and Cameroonian culture, and the immigration theme is timely. From the very first page, I liked Jendi. He's honest, has a strong work ethic, and he loves his family. His wife, Neni, was also a great character, and I loved how their relationship was portrayed. Neither of them were perfect, and they didn't always agree, but they had a deep love. Some of the contrasts in economic classes made me feel uncomfortable, as what the Edwards valued seemed shallow at times. I loved this book - it made for a great audiobook. The characters are complex and subtle and I really appreciate the overall plot.
