There are plenty of great things to be said about The Underground Railroad - the story and themes are incredibly important, the writing is strong, and the overall product is appropriately accessible for any casual reader. It's not a literary titan of the genre, but it certainly can sit comfortably beside the canon of works like Beloved or The Color Purple. ...more

If you're only going to read one book this year, make it this one.

Also, if you don't want to because of the Oprah book club tag, suck it up and get over it. This is an amazing book that most of us might have not heard about if she hadn't told us.

Brutal and thoughtful. We must remind ourselves how awful we can be to prevent it from happening again. Glad I experienced it. Bahni Turpin was the perfect narrator for the audiobook.
