What Members Thought

It would be easy for me to recommend this book based on premise alone. Whitehead is a really unique thinker. What if the Underground Railroad was a real rail system, boom! Read it. There is a lot more to this though. The writing is excellent with evocative imagery. There were a few times I had to pause while reading because the plot was so strong and heavy.

I feel like I've read a lot of books so far this year that I don't really have any strong thoughts on. This is another one of those. It's well written, but I don't think I was thoroughly engaged while reading through it.
I've had it on my to-read list for awhile and just picked it up because it's been turned into a TV show now and I heard something intriguing about the premise that I didn't realise before that sounded really neat, but ultimately I just thought this was okay. Oh well. ...more

Incredible book. More later...

I absolutely loved this but some pacing weirdness keeps this from being five stars
