This book had been on my TBR for a long time. When the show came out the consensus seemed to be 'meh', but I watched it anyway, and really liked it. And I kept thinking about it when it was done. I didn't know if the show kept close to the book, if they ended in the same place, or what. And so I finally had to sate my curiosity and pick up the book.

The Power is about what happens when a twist of nature makes women stronger than men. I heard about this book on the Overdue podcast and was intrigued to learn it was one of Pres Obama’s best of 2017 books. It’s a page turner. Hard to read some parts, in the way that dystopian fiction is just too close to reality. I don’t think I’ll be able to stop thinking about it for a very long time.

"Are patriarchies peaceful because men are peaceful? Or do more peaceful societies tend to allow men to rise up to the top because they place less value on the capacity for violence?" ponders a male historian living in a matriarchal world where women hold the power.

I'm not sure I agree with her conclusions in this book or how she chose to end it. But this book was FASCINATING and I can't stop thinking about it or relating it to everyday life. This is one of those think piece books that I think everyone should read.
