I. Love. This. Book. Any lingering crush that I had on Wil Wheaton from his Star Trek: The Next Generation days has totally been revived, because he did an awesome job with the narration. I'm a little young to get some of the '80s references, but I remember enough so that I had a rockin' good time. It's so much fun!

I first heard about this book on The Readers podcast. I listened to it again after having read the book and I firmly agree with all of the points Simon and Gav make.

Fantastic world building, I loved the characters and their flaws, I loved all the 80s references (especially the Monty Python ones), and I loved the plot. There were a few things that fell short, but I was so entertained that I don't even care. I can't wait to see a movie version!

This story centers around Wade Watts, a high school student who, along with everyone else in the world, hopes to inherit billions of dollars from a recently-deceased, reclusive video game designer. In order to do this, he must solve a series of riddles hidden inside the OASIS, which is like a World-of-Warcraft-if-it-took-over-the-universe kind of computer program.

This was a fun read. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes video games and/or 80's pop culture.
