Ready Player One is a super fun and fairly simple book. Set in 2044, there is a huge virtual reality game called the OASIS that nearly all humans play in order to escape their own decaying world. The creator of the game has died and he willed his entire estate and OASIS itself to the gamer who could uncover easter eggs hidden in the game. Ready Player One is basically Charlie and the Chocolate Factory meets The Matrix.

It spent maybe a little more time than advisable uncovering all the little facts and tidbits about the 1980s. The characters are given depth and growth, but only to a degree. It’s certainly not the most well written thing out there.
