Random 80's Dude: Whoa, Brody, whoa - WHAT-THE-FRAGGLE! You really enjoyed this book, it was absorbing and quick and fun! Why the mediocre rating?? I mean it's chop full of escapist, childhood memories - Oingo Boingo's "Dead Man's Party" & Monty Python & the Holy Grail, Kurt Vonnegut & Dark Crystal references - these are all things you LOVE! So what is your major malfunction, Numbnuts? I mean, THE GOONIES!!!

It was good, sucked me in. It's one of those stories with a simple, but good, concept and a good execution. I liked the characters (though everyone could have used a little more shading, highlighting the loserness of the heroes and some goodness in the villains). Also the reference dumps got tedious.
UPDATE: Found out that someone did give the villain a bit of desperately needed personal motivation, Andy Weir (The Martian), no wonder I'm liking that story better. He's a better writer. Also, stran ...more
