What Members Thought
Terrific and wonderfully written. Although I was slightly more interested in Ifemelu's portions, I enjoyed following both her and Obinze from when they first crossed paths through their many experiences back to each other. It was easy to for the story to completely envelop me and I learned so much about culture and race along the way; the included posts from Ifemelu's blog are particularly eye-opening and gave me a different perspective from which to examine my own white privilege.

Loved this, very beautiful. <3 Also: learnt lots of things, cool.
One of the best books I've read this year! It's a book about race, but it's also a love story of great depth. The protagonist, a young woman from Nigeria, starts a blog about her perceptions of race in America. Some of her reflections on how blacks are treated are difficult to read about and certainly made me examine my actions and thoughts once again. 7/10 while I'm glad that I read this and it gave me many things to think about I'm glad it's over. I thought the writing was beautiful so I may check out other books by this author. However, I felt mostly ambivalent toward the characters. The plot was a little ho-hum. The main point seems to be less about the plot and more about getting general feelings about race in America and what the differences are between America and African countries (Nigeria), which is interesting but I would have liked
