I had bought the book a number of years ago and I can't recall what the circumstances behind the purchase, but I suppose a large part of it was the reviews I had read on various blogs and that was probably a huge influence on my purchase. This is the best book I've read all year. I found it very interesting to read about WWII from the perspective of a German girl who didn't happen to be Jewish because the stories of these victims are not often told. And of course, I identified with the main character's love of books. I would recommend this to anyone, even if it is classified YA. ...more

I got through about 10 pages of this before I put it down. I know people seem to (almost) universally love it, but the style of writing was really jarring and unpleasant for me.
