What Members Thought

I enjoyed the first 2/3 and then slogged through through last 1/3. The original part was a sweet children's story and had a moral at the end of each chapter, which I appreciated. Alcott seemed to know her own mind when it comes to how children should be raised. The second part, Good Wives, was more grown up, reflecting the advanced ages of the characters. I love that she uses Jo's trials getting published to write a little satire on the publishing industry.

This was entertaining, but utterly saccharine. Many parts made me want to roll my eyes. The mother was so smug that she made me angry, especially the part where she tells her daughter (who is taking care of two twin babies) that it is her fault that her husband wasn’t coming home /going out most evenings because she wasn’t making enough time for him; ugh.
My favorite characters were Jo and Laurie, but wasn’t all that bummed in the end how their relationship turned out.

This book was really long. Probably partly because I was figured this wouldn't be my kind of book and it wasn't. (view spoiler)
