I wondered if The Last Days of Summer would hold up to a second reading. As I wipe away the tears I realize it has. For me this is book is an old friend I will revisit every few years.

The Last Days of Summer is written in epistolary style and could be a quick read on the surface but it's one to savor.

That 4 is really a 4.5. I do love a baseball book. And a kids stateside during WW2 book. And an epistolary novel. And a crying book. So this book was pretty much perfect for me. Pair it with The Natural, or Shoeless Joe, or A League of Their Own or Agent Carter or Captain America.

Still an absolute favorite, I laugh, I cry and I marvel! I was so pleasantly surprised to learn the book has been made into a play. Please please please come to Colorado!

An incredibly heartwarming story that mixes laughter and sadness in a balanced way. Joey might be one of the greatest child characters in years.
