Why?! Why did I wait my entire life to read this book? Wowzers. I had this exact same feeling after finishing Anne of Green Gables for the first time last year. I don't really need to say much more about it. If you are like me and haven't read it, I beg you, go out and buy this book.

Still a touching tale (not tamale, thanks autocorrect!), but I didn't realise how the last quarter (third?) dragged so; and it was hard not to acknowledge just how badly individuals behaved. The overwriting of the Yorkshire dialect was painful; but it's still a wonderful book. (Also, just as I recognised a number of moments and descriptions in The Little Princess from EBD's Chalet School series, so did I see Joey in some of the descriptions of Colin, which made me smile...)
