Why?! Why did I wait my entire life to read this book? Wowzers. I had this exact same feeling after finishing Anne of Green Gables for the first time last year. I don't really need to say much more about it. If you are like me and haven't read it, I beg you, go out and buy this book.

Still a touching tale (not tamale, thanks autocorrect!), but I didn't realise how the last quarter (third?) dragged so; and it was hard not to acknowledge just how badly individuals behaved. The overwriting of the Yorkshire dialect was painful; but it's still a wonderful book. (Also, just as I recognised a number of moments and descriptions in The Little Princess from EBD's Chalet School series, so did I see Joey in some of the descriptions of Colin, which made me smile...)

This is one of my favourite books to read on a rainy day. It tells the story of sullen, solemn Mary going to live with her mysterious uncle in the English moor. Mary and Colin's character development is always quite pleasant to see. The imagery is quite beautiful.
