This was recommended to me by someone on the basis that I liked Haruki Murakami. I borrowed it without questioning it, and dove in as soon as I could.

It's more of a romance and coming-of-age story, but it's really well written. I was expecting something a little more sci-fi or supernatural, but this was a nice, slow reveal and the story never dragged. Overall a decent book. ...more

Wow, that was bleak. It took a while to get going, and I found the narrator pretty irritating. But the ending was even more depressing than I even thought it would be, given the grimness of the premise, and for that I am impressed.

I mostly liked it, it was very beautiful, but the end was not nearly as shocking as I had been expecting/hoping. The "reveal" felt a bit pasted on, somehow.
