Let's just say I had a bad knee-jerk reaction to this book. It felt forced and gimmicky to me. I am very happy for anyone that enjoyed it and felt like this book did something positive in it's representation of a particular boy with autism.
To this particular reader, it felt contrived and like an attention/award grab. Tackle an emotionally charged topic that's not sufficiently represented in literature and add a thin veneer of mystery and drama. Make sure to fill the pages with diagrams, emotico ...more

A very interesting novel written from an autistic boy's point of view. I thought it did a great job of showing how some children with autism might think. While it does not give a wholly medical description of autism, I think that's ok. Every person is different and I really think that Haddon did a good job with his character, Christopher. I especially think it's important to point out that Mark Haddon worked with autistic individuals in his youth and probably has more insight into their thinking
