I thought this book started great. You meet Quentin Coldwater, an aloof genius who has never quite fit in. On his way to his college interview, he stumbles onto a school for magic and is told that he is going to take the entrance exam. He gets in and what follows is a great description of magic school, meeting different types of magicians, and adapting. It's like a Harry Potter for adults.

Listened to the version read by Mark Bramhall. Likes the narrator, could not stand the main character. Main character was a shallow privileged complainer. I would start to get interested in the story and then he would say some misogynistic gross comment and complain how no girls like him. I don't care that he's 17 it was so distracting and added literally nothing to the story. I was done the second he mentioned 'her unfeminine sweaty armpits'.
