Listening to this on audio, I remembered how much I love this series.
If you look at reviews, it's a very divisive book. You either hate it because the main character is bit of a depressed a-hole, or you love it because the main character is a bit of a depressed a-hole. After reading this again, my theory is that if you love it you're a bit of a depressed a-hole too.

Edit 9/5/2016: Just read Aubrey's review of this book and she said, "The only audience I could think of that would enjoy this read are the massively perverted fantastical type. *shudder*" I had a really good laugh at this. Guess I'm a perverted fantastical type?! This is one of my favorite books, hands down, ever.
I've been watching the show lately too. It's not bad! Some large differences from the book, and while some of them are cool (like Penny!) the book is better :)

An adult, gritty take on the fantasy genre where the execution leaves much to be desired. I like the idea behind this book, but ultimately found it to be rather cold, sterile and joyless. The first portion spanning Quentin's magical education at Brakebills is fairly enjoyable; Grossman knowingly cribs from the Harry Potter series, but in a tongue in cheek manner.
