The quintessential haunted house story, but really there is so much more below the surface. This is a book that builds on the quiet and still, it is a book more interested in the psychological than the physical, and the writing is lovely to boot.

It started so normal and ended so...not.

Atmosphere is the word that comes to mind most with this novel. It's got a creepy, gothic feel throughout and the tension increases as the novel goes along. Though I'm not a huge fan of the wife showing up at the last minute; it seemed a little out of left field.
