1Q84 is the story of an assassin and writer, and how their lives intertwine when strange things occur. I really cannot say anymore than that without spoiling the plot. Anyway, the actual writing was a real pleasure to read. I found the style to be charming and there were a few interesting similes and metaphors. Whew! Just finished Murakami's 1Q84 and am finding it impossible to sum up how I felt about it. Really enjoyed the beginning (****) then struggled with Book 2 (**). I mean, really struggled; spent considerable time debating whether to finish it or not. Continuing felt like a chore, but I did continue. Book 3 (***) kept me engaged enough to finish and I'm glad that I did. Still have no idea how this relates to Orwell's "1984" or Chekhov's "Sakhalin Island", "the little people", Sagigake, NHK fee

I absolutely loved certain things about this book and, well not exactly hated, but was discouraged by others. Things I loved: the characters, the descriptive language, the love story, the dystopian theme, the complete weirdness of the novel as a whole. Things I found discouraging: the length (not so much that the book is 925 pages, but that many parts of the story were repeated over & over unnecessarily - editing out the repetitiveness would have cut the book down by a 1/3 and made it more enjoy
