So, I was familiar with the story, but in reading the novel, I remembered why it's so timeless. It has every childhood thing wrapped up in it (pirates, mermaids, fairies, etc.) and it's a story we can all relate to and lesson that never goes away - growing up is inevitable and a good thing, but enjoy your childhood while it lasts. I also love the description of children: gay (happy), innocent and heartless, as it shows both the good and the darker side of childhood that some people like to gloss ...more
