As someone who has a deep attachment to To Kill a Mockingbird and, in particular, to Atticus Finch, I liked this book a lot. As a disclaimer, I tried to remember while reading this book that it was written before TKAM, and that characters in Go Set a Watchman are early versions of their more fleshed-out characterizations that we remember. I felt very much like Scout/Jean Louise while reading this; I liked it, then deeply disliked it, then grew to understand various characters' points of view, an

Well I fell in love with Too kill a mockingbird and this story just doesn't live up too the original. I'm just a little disappointed but it seems to me if I absolutely love a story it's hard to have a good follow up. The story isn't bad I just had higher expectations.

I give this one 3 stars, because I chose to contextualize the story in the era it was written and the politics of the part of the country in which Harper Lee was raised. A lot has been said on the racism evident in this novel, but not many have been comparing it to other things written in the same era. I believe this is a mistake.

I feel the need to start off this review with a warning: if you loved To Kill a Mockingbird, then don’t read this novel. Go Set a Watchman is little more than fan fare in comparison to the brilliant novel that came before it (at least as far as publishing is concerned). At its very worst, this novel feels like it was a bad fan fiction piece. It does not feel like a novel that Harper Lee wrote. It instead feels like the characters are from another novel entirely. All of the loveable characters ar

I feel like I should start with I thought To Kill a Mockingbird was just okay as well (ducks tomatoes and other rotten vegetables). It's well written but the characters are just kind of one-note, and I always thought the message was too preachy and the story not entertaining enough. Go Set a Watchman was also well-written but didn't really have a plot aside from an older Jean Louise (Scout) comes home for a visit and stuff happens.

I respected this book far more than I thought I would. It highlights the ugly things that I always felt were lurking in To Kill a Mockingbird, but doesn't give any easy answers; in fact, it doesn't really provide any answers.
I think a lot of the hostility towards it comes from people being forced into Jean Louise's world when they want to stay in Scout's. ...more

I'm pondering over how I feel about this book. I don't dislike it nor do I love it. It was nice to revisit the characters of To Kill a Mockingbird again and seen them at a different time. The themes of this book about Racism and dealing with learning unpleasant truths about close family makes this book more relevant to today that when it was originally conceived back before Lee wrote he first book. I think this adds to the depth of characters in this world and throws out some well thought out ar
